The “OG Bitcoin whale,” considered one of the crypto world’s oldest and most mysterious asset holders, is back on the move after 14 years of silence. “OG Bitcoin Whale” Awakes After 14 Years, Moves Another 40,000 BTC: Is He Preparing to Sell? According to blockchain data, 40,192 BTC (approximately $4.75 billion) was transferred from whale addresses to a new address early this morning. This mysterious whale first moved approximately 80,000 BTC ($9.5 billion) across eight different addresses on July 4, 2025. These transfers, each containing 10,000 BTC, caused a stir in the crypto community. Two days earlier, 40,010 of these BTC were sent to two addresses identified by chain analysis firm Arkham as belonging to Galaxy Digital. Some of the funds were later distributed to crypto exchange OKX and unlabeled addresses. The remainder remains held in Galaxy Digital addresses. New Transfer: Sell Signal? As of 4:33 AM today, the remaining 40,192 BTC, previously distributed equally across four different addresses (“bc1qn”, “bc1qy”, “bc1qm”, “1GcCK”), were consolidated into a new address (“bc1qs…”). Prior to the transfer, test transactions of 1 BTC were conducted on Tuesday and Wednesday. According to analytics firm Lookonchain, this new consolidation move could indicate the whale is planning to continue selling. Galaxy Digital’s OTC (over-the-counter) services allow users to sell large amounts of crypto privately without sending them directly to exchanges. Who Could Be the Whale? While various theories circulate regarding the identity of this mysterious whale, from Roger Ver to the CIA and even Satoshi Nakamoto, Coinbase executive Conor Grogan states that the whale was likely an early Bitcoin miner in 2011.
