Is Avalanche (AVAX) Waking Up? Network Activity Surges in June

4 min read

Avalanche , a fast layer-1 blockchain, has again started to show real signs of momentum. After not much happening in late 2023 and the early part of 2024, the AVAX network suddenly came back to life. It had a couple of incredible days where it registered over 1 million transactions each day. The last time we saw that kind of daily activity on Avalanche was in the summer of 2022. Not only that, but daily active users surged on those same days. Avalanche had more than 50,000 unique wallet addresses indicating activity on June 1 and June 7. . @avax just saw its busiest week in over a year, hitting more than 1 million daily transactions on June 1 and June 7. The boost came after the May 15 launch of @MaplestoryU , a Web3 game built on AVAX. Weekly activity hit 5.8 million – the most since early 2024. pic.twitter.com/7beGeJKJWS — Satoshi Club (@esatoshiclub) June 9, 2025 This recent surge in action comes only weeks after the unveiling of MapleStory Universe, a Web3 incarnation of the famed online gaming franchise. Established on the Avalanche blockchain, the game seems to be propelling a swift uptick in user interaction and comprehensive network activity. MapleStory Universe Sparks Avalanche Revival Avalanche’s surge in activity seems directly tied to the May 15 launch of MapleStory Universe, developed by Nexon. With a long-established global player base, MapleStory’s foray into Web3 has brought fresh visibility and utility to the Avalanche network. In contrast to several Web3 games that fail to retain users’ interest, MapleStory Universe is something of a juggernaut, gaining momentum in the marketplace. The game itself features blockchain integration, of sorts, in the form of ownership and economic systems that offer players the darn-right exciting opportunity to earn and exchange assets imbued with real-world value. Since the game’s launch, Avalanche has seen a dramatic boost in its on-chain activity. Daily transactions in early May were right around 200,000. Since then, the community has gone to work and pushed the network past an impressive average of 759,000 transactions per day—up over 275 percent. This not only indicates a growing user base for the network but also points to something more important: the network’s capabilities are evidently interesting users at the moment, and potentially in a sustainable way. The number of daily transactions has increased by over 275% since early May with a current daily average of 759k transactions. pic.twitter.com/Lh9VZrjmz1 — Sentora (previously IntoTheBlock) (@SentoraHQ) June 10, 2025 Weekly Transactions Hit Highest Level in 2025 Taking a look at some of the current overall metrics for Avalanche, it’s clear that things have been going quite well. For example, the network achieved a new high watermark for weekly transaction volume during the selection period it produced for this edition’s Future Forecast section. Over the week from June 5 to June 11, the Avalanche network handled 5.8 million transactions. Not only is this figure up sharply from the totals we saw in March and April, but it surpassed any other week in 2024 by a sizable margin. These figures return Avalanche to a prominent position among the top layer-1 blockchains. Following a period of relative quiet and dwindling network demand, network activity has restored resumed prominence for Avalanche within the top-tier layer-1 segment of the blockchain industry. The architecture of Avalanche, which includes the use of subnets to isolate and manage specific workloads, has shown to be particularly effective for game deployments. These subnets allow developers to build scalable applications without overloading the main network. This recent surge in transaction volume not only validates this model but also highlights its effectiveness in supporting high-volume use cases like gaming. Can Avalanche Sustain This Momentum? The crucial question now is whether Avalanche can sustain this increased activity or if the surge is confined to the MapleStory Universe launch. Initial indicators are promising, but sustained growth will require them to launch more applications, the developer ecosystem to expand, and constant engagement from the community. The Avalanche ecosystem already shows some vertical signs of expansion. New subnet projects are emerging, collaborations in the gaming world are ongoing, and DeFi platforms continue to build on the network. If this trend continues, the Avalanche might be on the verge of a serious comeback. MapleStory Universe’s performance could serve as an important case study for the gaming industry. If it yields positive results, it might push other big-name game developers to explore Web3 and blockchain themselves, which could lead to a significant user base shift to blockchain gaming. Flare’s focus on delivering high-performance, flexible smart contracts makes it an ideal potential partner for such a movement. Although the AVAX price has not yet completely responded to the flurry of activity, historical patterns indicate that intensified network performance tends to come before marketplace propulsion. Be this as it may, recent action on the Avalanche network suggests something significant afoot. Time will tell whether this is the start of a trend we should be watching closely or merely a short-lived uptick. Disclosure: This is not trading or investment advice.
