Altcoin Season ‘Hasn’t Even Started Yet,’ Says Crypto Trader Michaël van de Poppe
2 min read
Despite recent doubts surrounding the future of altcoins, prominent crypto trader and MN Trading Capital founder Michaël van de Poppe believes the altcoin season is not over—it hasn’t even begun. In a post on X dated May 28, van de Poppe dismissed bearish sentiment in the market, arguing that many altcoins are still trading near their local bottoms. “I don’t understand why people start claiming that a bear market is around the corner,” he said. “They are literally on the bottom.” He added that the crypto market is heading into the “final easy 12–24 months,” suggesting that a prolonged bullish phase could be on the horizon for altcoins. Van de Poppe’s optimism follows a mixed 30-day performance across altcoins. Solana has gained 17.84% over the past month, now trading at $175.17, but is still down over 32% since mid-January. XRP has posted a modest 1.98% increase and is trading at $2.31, yet remains 29.35% lower than its January highs. Traders Signal Incoming Altcoin Season Other traders have echoed van de Poppe’s view, suggesting that altcoins are preparing for a major rally. Crypto trader Davinci Jeremie confidently declared that “soon, altcoins will turn into a wildfire,” while another well-followed trader known as Moustache said, “altcoin season isn’t just a meme. It’s coming.” A common belief among analysts is that a true altcoin season often begins after a period of Ether outperforming Bitcoin. The ETH/BTC ratio currently stands at 0.02430, having climbed 26.74% in the past 30 days. This ratio is considered a key indicator for predicting altcoin momentum , as rising Ether strength often signals increased investor appetite for riskier assets. Still, caution persists. CoinMarketCap’s Altcoin Season Index , which measures how the top 100 altcoins have performed against Bitcoin over the last 90 days, currently sits at just 24 out of 100—a score that suggests Bitcoin remains the dominant force in the market . Smaller Tokens See Notable Gains While most major altcoins have underperformed compared to Bitcoin, some lesser-known tokens have surged. Fartcoin leads the way with a staggering 316.72% gain over the past 90 days. It is followed by Four (FORM) with a 148.15% increase and Virtuals Protocol (VIRTUAL), up 107.47%. Despite the skepticism, the recent uptick in altcoin activity may be a sign that the long-awaited altseason is just around the corner.
