XRP Ledger Sees Largest RLUSD Burn Since Launch
3 min read
The XRP Ledger (XRPL) has recorded its largest RLUSD burn since the stablecoin’s launch, with $12 million redeemed in a single transaction. The update was shared by Vet (@Vet_X0), a recognized figure in the crypto space and a validator on the XRP Ledger. This is the largest burn of $RLUSD on the XRP Ledger since the launch of RLUSD. Minting issues RLUSD on customer request -> liquidity on ramp to the XRPL. Burning redeems RLUSD on customer request -> liquidity off ramp from the XRPL. tldr – someone off ramped 12M USD out. https://t.co/lrtwFbqFrk — Vet (@Vet_X0) April 22, 2025 RLUSD Burning and Cross-Chain Activity RLUSD minting and burning are core functions of the stablecoin’s role in facilitating liquidity on and off the XRPL. When a user mints RLUSD, they introduce liquidity into the XRPL. When they burn it, as in this case, they redeem it, effectively removing liquidity from the network. This $12 million burn represents the largest redemption since the stablecoin’s launch in December 2024. It functions as a signal that a user has requested to redeem RLUSD. However, community members noted that the user did not take the funds away from the ecosystem, but moved them to the Ethereum blockchain. RLUSD was launched on both the XRPL and the Ethereum blockchain . He noted that having a memo showing that users had switched blockchain networks through Ripple’s cross-chain transfer protocol would be a welcome addition, as it would clarify that investors were not leaving the ecosystem. The absence of clear on-chain memos or flags indicating that a cross-chain transfer has occurred also makes it more difficult to trace asset movements. For stablecoins intended to move freely between blockchains, this creates a gap in transparency. What’s Next for RLUSD? Ripple has positioned RLUSD as a stablecoin with cross-chain utility, and this recent burn demonstrates that users are engaging with that capability. The size of the transaction, combined with its off-chain migration, shows increasing usage across both networks. A recent report drew attention to a notable uptick in Ethereum wallets holding RLUSD , showing that the digital asset’s adoption is increasing rapidly. Experts have long predicted that RLUSD’s growth will benefit XRP as the increased attention on the ecosystem could increase its adoption, and subsequently, its price. Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse has expressed the company’s desire to make RLUSD one of the top five stablecoins in the crypto market by the end of 2025. He revealed that the stablecoin has already outperformed expectations, and expects big things for the asset and the broader XRP ecosystem in 2025.
